Welcome to Farecast, the world’s first airfare prediction site.
I know I speak for our fantastic team, our investors (Greylock, Madrona & WRF Capital), our founder (Oren Etzioni), and so many close friends and family when I say it is great to finally introduce the public beta of Farecast.com to the world. We’re excited about what we’ve developed, but realize that there is still plenty of work to do. We encourage and appreciate any and all feedback.
The Farecast team is passionate about enabling customers to be more empowered when shopping for airline tickets. Today’s press release provides a good overview of what we’re up to, including how we answer “Where to Buy” and “When to Buy” through our Quick Search path and three other important planning questions through our Flexible Search path.
Farecast launched with coverage from Seattle (Sea-Tac) and Boston (Logan) to all major domestic destinations. There have been a lot of requests for additional cities, and we are working as quickly as possible to expand our coverage. Farecast plans to launch all major domestic airports by year end. Thanks for your patience and stay tuned for Farecast opening at an airport near you.
Finally, like so many new consumer-facing sites, we are quickly scaling the operations and our capacity. So the beta label is appropriate. As we ramp up the traffic and expand our offering, we may experience issues with the speed and reliability of the site. For further information, you can read more at our Beta Limitations page. Please hang in there with us. We’re working the kinks out every day, and we’re committed to delivering bullet-proof service.
We want to be your advocate and trusted expert when buying airline tickets. We believe that true empowerment when buying this complex product can only be achieved with better information. Farecast is committed to investing in the people, the data, and the technology to improve our experience.
Thanks for coming by, and please tell a friend about Farecast.
like your ambition; can’t wait for additional home towns, and especially global connections. I’ll keep an eye open for fruits of your labor and ambitions.
Congratulations on a successful launch.
I’ve read a lot of Oren’s work related to search, Metacrawler, etc… and I wish everyone luck on the newest venture. It’s a great idea!
What I look forward to the most is international travel: I travel a lot to the UK and being able to predict the NY to LON (or MAN) would be incredible!
Keep up the good work and I look forward to seeing more in the future.
All the best.
Looking foward to trying it out. I think information markets will be the next wave of useful consumer apps on the web and you guys have put a new twist on the idea. Best of luck. I will be following up in the nect few weeks. BTW nice clean looking UI I love the colors and navigation.
Fantastic concept. Once Canadian flights are included I will be a regular visitor!
Great Service - “All Cities” is a neat idea - but unusable (as it doesnt let me specify specific dates) - it assumes that the user can fly anywhere on anydate… its not usually the case - uses can fly anywhere on specific dates (vacations etc)
Saw your launch on the news last night, checked out the site today and was impressed with the information available on the flights. Much more comprehensive than any regular travel site. Luckily I am in Seattle and travel 8 -10 times a year, so I will be a regular!
I just surfed over from BoingBoing.com and after clicking my mouse only 5 times and getting exactly what I wanted, it is apparent that this site is the absolute best thing since the idea of the internet. I thank you, my wallet thanks you, my friends and family thank you! You guys rock!
i travel to mexico three or four times a year. can’t wait until international flights are added.live in seattle and am retired and can and do travel frequently on domestic flights. best of luck on your venture…i’m telling everyone i know.
Congrats, Hugh… I’d been wondering for some time what you’ve been up to! The product sounds very exciting and I can’t wait to give it a try.
congratultions on the launch. You mean there’s more?
Cool site, I know you guys will do well.
