Deals Based on Airfare Science

Today, we launched Farecast Deals, a new area of the website that displays top airfare deals from major airports across the country.  How are our deals different than thousands of other travel sites?  They’re different because our deals are based on science, not marketing.  We apply science to airfare deals in two ways,  1) why it’s a deal and 2) why you should buy now.  Also, we provide an easy to use calendar to help you find all the travel dates your deal is good for.

Why it’s a deal
Here’s how we apply science to answer the question: “why is it a deal?”
1) We find the absolute lowest fare for a given market (e.g., SEA-JFK, SFO-LAS) for major travel dates, over the next 90 days.  (This takes over 1 million airfare searches each day.)

2) Then we compare it to millions, if not billions, of the lowest fares we’ve ever seen for that market.  (So far, we’ve observed over 175 billion airfares, and have looked at hundreds of millions of airfares for some markets.)

3) Finally we show you how much you are saving based on past low airfares, and sometimes you will even see a “record low.”

Why buy now
After researching price fluctuations we’ve found that most great deals don’t last longer than 48 hours.  This is why we decided to include an airfare prediction with every deal; so you’ll know when to buy.

Find a great deal now

We would love to know your thoughts on this new feature.  If you would like more information, check out the Farecast Deals press release or How Deals Work page of the site.

I already loved your site because of the deals and the drop-dead simple UI.

But knowing that I don’t care about marketing, I only care about the lowest deals, is great to hear. Too many companies take the idea of “monetizing traffic” so far that the usability suffers. Congratulations on a great new feature on an already great site.
