Welcome to this week’s Farecast Fare View, an inside view into the news making headlines this week and the latest record low airfare deals.

In the News This Week

Analyst questions effectiveness of air fare hikes – Travel Weekly reports this week on a comment by JP Morgan Analyst Jamie Baker that airfare hikes may be losing their effectiveness. According to the article, Baker said in a research note to investors April 30, that U.S. legacy carriers raised domestic fares 11 times from January 2006 to March 2007 and Southwest raised them seven times. But those systemwide fare increases did not show up in what customers actually paid for their domestic tickets.

This is why it is so important to track all available prices to be able to measure the direct impact of changes on fares. Farecast looks at all actually available airfare data, not just filed airfares or airfares searched by consumers.

Delta Hits the Comeback Trail – Delta continues to make headlines this week as it emerged from Bankruptcy.  With a new logo and a new Ad campaign, The New York Times talks about its new advertising campaign and its message of change for customers.
