Coast-to-coast Travel On Sale

Following up on my post from Tuesday, here are a couple more end-of-Summer sales. Today it’s coast-to-coast travel that’s on sale, specifically Fall travel between San Francisco and Boston or New York. To get in the mood, East-coasters can imagine wine tasting and hiking in Napa Valley, while Californians should dream of a hot slice of pizza on a crisp Fall day in Central Park or Faneuil Hall. Here’s the skinny:

New York - San Francisco: Continental launched a new fare that dropped prices $50 on average for departures after September 5th. A typical fare is now around $300, a price very rarely seen in these markets during the past two months. We saw prices dip as low as $240 for October departures last year so it is possible that prices will drop further yet, but $300 is certainly a decent price. United has matched Continental’s fare.

Boston - San Francisco: US Airways started a sale dropping fares an average of $30 from yesterday, with typical September fares now in the $290 ball park. Last year saw fares for Fall departures as low as $260, so again there is room for further price drops, but $290 is a very reasonable price. American Airlines has matched this price.
