Farecast Fare Trend: August 28, 2007

It’s been a couple of weeks since we’ve had an interesting Tuesday with a lot of price changes, but this week doesn’t disappoint. Fortunately, today brings good news and more good news.

I’ll start with the good news: AirTran is at it again, launching a big sale for many flights into and out of Atlanta. The new fare is good for travel up to November 7. The biggest winner here is Philadelphia to Atlanta, where the average price dropped by about $100. Other cities include Dallas, New York, and Washington D.C., all of which had the average ticket fall by more than $50. Some trips into and out of Orlando were also effected by this sale, Dallas and New York are two examples.

Now for the other good news (which starts out sounding like bad news), prices increased $25-$60 for trips to and from New York for a range of cities including Los Angeles, Chicago, and Las Vegas. The good news is that our models indicate that prices are likely to come back down on at least one day in the next week for most of these itineraries. Search for the dates you’re interested in on farecast.live.com and if we predict that prices are falling, hold tight: the odds will be in your favor if you wait a little while to book that fall trip.
